Chapbooks are like zines, though zines I think give a natural process of illustrated jumble. I see zines as youthful creations of meaning and with chapbooks, well they are self published and there are publishers that publish chapbooks. A chapbooks is more formal like poems, short stories, micro stories, though it does come back to zines. I think there is a fine line between the both.

In the 16th century chapbooks came about when peddlers, also known as chapmen sold sheets of paper that contained ballads, news reports, religious prayers and even short stories. customers, manly the poorer ones would buy these sheets and hand sew them together which in return got the name chapbook.

Chapbooks are usually A5 size, though other sizes can be done. pages are from anything that is 4, 8, 12, 16 and right up to 48 pages and maybe 64 pages. The modern market today you see them as A5.
